It’s been a while since artistic director Alfira O’Sullivan and her team from Suara Indonesia last entertained Indofest audiences with their energetic mix of dance, body percussion and song. However, we look forward to having them back again this year all the way from Sydney to share their traditional and modern dances which incorporate influences of their Indonesian heritage and Australian upbringing.

As well as performing on the main stage, Suara Indonesia are conducting a dance workshop at this year’s Festival. Taking place in the Hetzel Lecture Theatre in the State Library, the workshop is open to anyone and everyone. Participants will learn the moves to Ratoh Duek, a dance from Aceh which is performed in a kneeling position with rhythm made through clapping, slapping the upper body and legs and voice.
