The Indofest main stage will come alive on Sunday, 1st October with music and dance from all corners of the Indonesian archipelago. Starting at 10am, DJ Mojo Hannah (Hannah Tunstill) will be at the Indofest helm tasked with getting the atmosphere pumping. Not only is our in-house DJ a master at the turntable, but staying true to her Indonesian roots, she is also a member of the Gameladies. And did we mention she is the creativity behind our new Indofest logo? Amazing talent!!
After a few years of hiatus, Indofest 2017 will see the return of gamelan to the main stage. Not just one gamelan orchestra but three! Adelaide’s oldest gamelan group, Gamelan Sekar Laras, who call the stunning Flinders University Pendopo home, will be pairing up with group Gamelan Laras Sunda to perform pieces in the gamelan tradition of Central and West Java.
Remember our DJ Hannah? Well, our third gamelan group is her turf. The Gameladies are ladies (and the occasional lad) who love gamelan. They like to play around with contemporary gamelan tunes and the occasional iconic pop song, adapting them to play on the gamelan.
There will also be plenty of dance taking place as the main stage becomes the Indofest epicentre where 54 performers from across all our Indofest kampungs will come together to bring you the extended ‘Tari Nusantara’, a 45 minute dance spectacular representing a range of dances from across the archipelago!!
The main stage is also where all the important announcements will be made throughout the day. Grab a spot early for a front seat to the Indofest Opening Ceremony. Find out why the Indonesian community comes back year after year to share their culture, and why the City of Adelaide are only too happy to have us! Stick around to see how the Indofest Schools Program has spent the last two terms bringing a touch of Indonesia to schools across South Australia. Come back later around 2pm to watch the draw of the Indofest Raffle and find out if you are the lucky winner of the four night stay at the luxurious Beji Mawang Villa in Ubud.
Last but by no means least, Rhythmnesia will set up shop on the stage bringing you a selection of traditional Indonesian dancing music and mixing it together with modern contemporary tunes. Under their watchful eye, Indofest 2017 will come to an exciting climax with everyone invited to joget-joget!!
